Arts & Culture

At the end of my first year, I realized that while there were numerous art-related ExEds, there were not one for visual arts – the field that I am also most passionate about. Therefore, my friends and I decided to together form a new ExEd which invites everyone, especially those who were not taking visual arts as an IB subject but were still interested in the area, to practically explore their passion. We proposed the idea to Melinda and was approved to be started at the beginning of our second year.

Dance is another passion of mine that I have been engaged with since primary school. I have learned jazz and hiphop before, and have also participated in various performances. Recently, I had also been introduced to K-pop – another genre that I found a lot of fun in following the choreography. With this, in my first semester at UWC USA, I did not hesitate to join in Dance Ensemble, choosing 2 over 1 to further challenge myself.

While I was unable to continue with dance ensemble 2, I still participated in a lot of dance performances at school. This involves dance fun and cafes, in which I either formed a group with my friends or was invited to join others. Most of the performances were K-pop as it was my favorite genre and I also had had most experience in.

I did not have the chance to participate in any cultural showcase last year, since the showcases were still on rotations based on regions before. In my second year, the rotations were canceled in order to create a more unified performances which include students of every region. Always having been excited to be participating in my region PAND showcase, I was aspired to join one of the showcases this year instead.
